About the Role

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to residents in long-term care, providing resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role involves age-appropriate care, infection prevention, and contributing to the nursing team.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance with basic health care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support.
• Assists residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment.
• Provides range of motion and passive exercises.
• Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience.
• Assists residents with meals and snacks, providing water and supplements as appropriate.
• Aids providers and nursing staff members with procedures.
• Documents resident interactions, outcomes, care, behavior, activity, and dietary information.
• Communicates resident's changing condition and care concerns to the charge nurse.
• Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs.
• Provides housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living areas.
• Assists with and documents wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation.
• May participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces.

Requirements

• High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
• Minimum age of 16.
• Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of date into the position.
• Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing.
• Maintains a record of continuing education credits annually (minimum 12 hours).
• Maintains all department specific required certifications.
• When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
• May require a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver’s license if classified as a Sanford Category II Driver.
• Must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions if applicable.
