About the Role
This role involves repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex clinical equipment to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal functionality. You will contribute to a holistic team approach focused on making children's health better through advanced science and discovery.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, repair, and modify complex equipment to meet regulatory requirements.
- Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, chemistry, biology, and information systems to solve equipment issues.
- Assemble and test new equipment using appropriate Incoming Inspection criteria.
- Document and verify all completed work in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Solve service line customer service problems.
- Perform validation testing and Planned Maintenance (PMs) on complex clinical equipment.
- Maintain and update service/operator's manuals, technical documentation, and parts inventory in the CE CMMS.
- Use the CMMS for monitoring and reporting equipment issues.
- Collaborate with supervisors and managers to improve CMMS information accuracy.
- Generate, revise, and update PM procedures.
- Develop technical skills through cross-training, literature review, and department meetings.
- Maintain knowledge of current healthcare equipment and technology trends.
- Participate in continuing education and training.
- Formally mentor less experienced technicians.
- Improve customer service skills.
- Advance knowledge in customer service, equipment repairs, and PMs by working with experienced technicians.
- Interface with co-workers, clinical staff, and other support areas to maintain equipment and technologies.
- Address daily departmental concerns with leadership.
- Participate in establishing SMART goals and job requirements.
- Recommend areas or approaches for organizational performance improvement.
- Perform new/updated procedures, collect critical data, and provide input.
- Work within the CE department coverage scenario, using shift rotations if necessary.
- Respect patient rights and handle confidential information per CCHMC policies.
- Adhere to and model CCHMC's Core Standards.
- Demonstrate familiarity with regulatory/compliance requirements for CMS, OSHA, NFPA, TJC, and other relevant agencies.
- Ensure work areas are organized and provide a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment.
- Report any unsafe conditions or practices to departmental leadership.
- Attend required CCHMC training sessions (e.g., MRI safety, radiation safety, OSHA).
- Comply with all Infection Control policies and procedures.
- Document work thoroughly and in a timely manner.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in a related field.
- 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
- Academic work aligned with Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation Core Competencies for the Biomedical Equipment Tech.
- BMET Associate Degree.
- Military Training.
- BMET Certification.
