About the Role

The SUDS Program supports individuals presenting to the Emergency Department at London Health Sciences Centre. This front-line, clinical position provides addiction medicine, crisis intervention, and system navigation related to substance use health, aiming to reduce avoidable emergency department visits. You will collaborate with various healthcare professionals to offer addiction medical support with a harm-reduction lens.

Responsibilities

Maintain requirements for practice, including a license for a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class, NP/Physician Collaborative Practice Agreement, and malpractice insurance.
Maintain confidentiality and act in an ethical manner, consistent with professional expectations and the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
Retain clinical competence through relevant evidence-based research and legislation.
Proficient in computer skills and experience with electronic medical record systems (i.e. PS Suites).
Demonstrate ability, commitment to and knowledge of community addictions and mental health care.
Provide Health Care Services to London Health Sciences Centre patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
Exhibit knowledge of evidence-informed guidelines, legislation, regulation and organizational policies when prescribing controlled drugs/substances (CDS).
Demonstrate an understanding of best practices related to the use of CDS and of other pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapeutic options.
Provide health care services to clients 18 years and older that meet eligibility.
Provide leadership and guidance for the development of expanded medical services at CMHA TVAMHS.
Perform comprehensive care using advanced health assessment, physical examination, therapeutic management, consultation, collaboration and referrals.
Work in collaboration with consulting physician and the inter-professional team to provide client-centred health care services.
Maintain client records for accuracy and confidentiality.
Support the health needs of individuals with a history of addictions, mental health and other chronic illnesses and refer to specialists and other community agencies.
Determine the need for follow-up appointments and assist with transfer of care to permanent primary health care services.
Coordinate service provision with other health care partners in the development of community care plans and wrap-around services.
Promote the integration of addiction-based medicine and emergency care.
Offer educational opportunities and consultation as appropriate.

Requirements

Current registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class
Current First Aid and CPR certification
Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly
Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months.

Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation
Knowledge of WHMIS, fire, health, and safety procedures
