About the Role

Brightway Living & Learning is seeking a Substitute School Nurse - Per Diem to provide daily attendance, treatment for illness and injuries, medication administration, and medical emergency handling for students. This role is crucial in ensuring the health and safety of students with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Daily attendance to students enrolled
  • Treatment of all children for illness and injuries, including recording and notifying parents
  • Administer medications daily, record, and maintain up-to-date records
  • Maintain up-to-date student records, including physicals and immunizations
  • Administer mantoux tests as needed to staff and new employees and maintain records
  • Provide staff in-service training on topics such as OSHA, Universal Precautions, and safety
  • Administer care to staff in case of injury and complete incident reports, maintaining monthly tracking
  • Handle all medical emergencies within the building
  • Order supplies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse, Licensed in New York State
  • Relevant experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Ability to modify the area to secure the safety of children
  • Ability to move/transport a child weighing up to 30 pounds to a height of 3 feet to place child on changing table
  • Ability to move quickly after a child up to 200 feet to prevent elopement
  • Ability to position self or maneuver classroom to facilitate student instruction in classroom and playground environment
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions and detect/respond to fire alarms
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs with railing
