About the Role
Oneida Health is seeking a full-time Medical Office Assistant for their Quick Care office in Oneida. This role combines clinical and administrative duties, reporting to the Practice Manager. The ideal candidate will provide excellent customer service and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Medical experience is beneficial but not required.
Responsibilities
- Rooms patients, obtains and documents chief complaint, vital signs, height, weight, and allergies.
- Records and reconciles medications, including OTC drugs.
- Records smoking status.
- Identifies barriers to medication adherence and meeting treatment goals.
- Assists providers with procedures and examinations.
- Ensures appropriate documents are signed by all parties.
- Attends to the needs of patients and visitors.
- Reassures patients and answers questions.
- Provides patient education and self-management tools.
- Provides information on medications and collaborates with patients on treatment goals.
- Performs treatments and procedures within scope and training, including EKG, POC testing, phlebotomy, and tympanometry.
- Assures patients are seen in an orderly and fair manner, communicating delays and waiting times.
- Performs pre-visit planning.
- Maintains medical records, ensuring all related reports, labs, and information are filed/scanned and available.
- For assigned patient panel, assists with coordinating care by tracking overdue labs and imaging, flagging abnormal results, notifying patients of test results, and following up on Newborn Screens.
- For assigned patient panel, identifies patients with ED or Hospital admission, obtains discharge summary, and contacts patients for follow-up care.
- Assists with routine equipment checks and stocks supplies.
- Places orders as necessary from Central Supply and Pharmacy.
- Participates in routine exam room cleaning.
- Facilitates and executes physician orders, scheduling exams and tests, and preparing necessary prescriptions and/or instructions.
- Answers telephones and transfers sick calls or requests for prescription refills.
- Coordinates and schedules referrals/surgeries with other physician specialists, as well as imaging, labs, and other medical tests.
- Ensures appropriate follow-up is arranged for patients.
- Assists with monitoring referral return information.
- Prepares and sends referrals with CCD and asks patients about self-referrals.
- Performs administrative duties and discusses insurance claims with insurance companies for pre-certification and/or pre-authorization.
- Assists provider with resuscitation and CPR during anaphylactic reactions or Code Blue events.
- Ensures Code procedure is followed and documented.
- Participates actively in quality improvement activities.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings.
- Communicates effectively with team members to ensure smooth workflow and coordinate activities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Medical Office: 1 year (Preferred)
- Computer Skills: 1 year (Preferred)
