About the Role
CIBC Real Estate Finance Division provides financing to real estate companies across Canada. The Associate will support a team dedicated to helping clients with real estate interim and term lending, and client relationship management. This role offers exposure to loan underwriting, credit analysis, and portfolio management.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth company, industry, and portfolio analysis.
- Perform risk assessments for existing and new credit arrangements.
- Complete financial statement analysis, sensitivity and scenario analysis, and valuation of different asset classes.
- Review third-party reports such as environmental reports and appraisals.
- Make presentations to senior management regarding deal structuring.
- Collaborate with internal risk partners to analyze key risks and mitigation strategies.
- Fulfill day-to-day client requests alongside the Relationship Manager.
- Assess client needs, propose solutions, and execute as instructed.
- Prepare client proposals and information memoranda.
- Attend client events, meetings, and site visits.
- Support the end-to-end processing of a loan, from structuring to funding.
- Collaborate with various teams to process loans, open deposit accounts, and review cash management arrangements.
Requirements
- Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field.
- Ability to work well within a group setting.
- Strong client and relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated experience in financial statements and accounting principles to assess lending risk, with emphasis on the real estate industry.
- Aptitude for business development (sales) skills.
- Critical thinking skills to inform decision making.
- Ability to investigate complex problems and make sense of information.
- Ability to communicate detailed information in an impactful way.
- Legally eligible to work at the specified location(s).
- May be asked to complete an attribute-based assessment and other skills tests.
