About the Role
Villamar Law Group is seeking a motivated, professional, and hardworking Workers' Compensation Attorney, whether newly admitted and eager to learn or experienced. This role offers hands-on training and mentorship for new attorneys, and autonomy and support for seasoned attorneys in a fast-paced, high-volume practice. Responsibilities
- Represent injured workers before the New York State Workers' Compensation Board
- Take depositions of claimants, physicians, employers, and other witnesses
- Prepare for and litigate hearings and trials
- Draft appeals, rebuttals, memoranda of law, and other litigation documents
- Conduct legal research and remain current on developments in New York workers' compensation law
- Prepare clients for hearings and testimony
- Negotiate settlements and develop effective litigation strategies
- Work closely with paralegals and legal assistants to ensure cases progress efficiently
- Assist injured workers in obtaining the medical treatment and benefits to which they are entitled
- Perform additional litigation and case management duties as assigned
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Workers' compensation experience is preferred, but not required
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload while meeting deadlines
- Strong negotiation and litigation skills
- Professional, organized, and detail-oriented
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research platforms such as Lexis or Westlaw
