About the Role

As a Senior Engineering Designer – Water & Wastewater, you will play a key role in planning, designing, and delivering infrastructure projects that protect public health and improve the quality of life in communities. You will collaborate with licensed Professional Engineers, Project Managers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, practical, and sustainable engineering solutions for water treatment plants, wastewater treatment facilities, water distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection systems, pump stations, force mains, and stormwater management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering design models, plans, specifications, and construction documents using Civil 3D for municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Design and develop plans for water treatment plants (WTPs), wastewater treatment facilities (WWTFs), water distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection systems, pump stations, force mains, stormwater management systems, and related municipal infrastructure.
  • Develop engineering reports, conceptual layouts, engineering exhibits, report graphics, quantity takeoffs, and engineer's opinions of probable construction cost.
  • Apply applicable engineering principles, design standards, and regulatory requirements to produce practical and code-compliant designs.
  • Coordinate design efforts with electrical, mechanical, structural, environmental, and other engineering disciplines to develop complete and coordinated construction documents.
  • Follow Corporate Civil CAD Standards while producing accurate, consistent, and high-quality engineering drawings.
  • Perform field investigations and site visits to verify existing conditions and support project development.
  • Assist with construction administration activities, including reviewing contractor submittals, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), evaluating shop drawings, and observing construction progress.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, municipalities, regulatory agencies, utility owners, and contractors throughout project planning, design, and construction.
  • Review project deliverables for quality, completeness, and compliance with company standards and project requirements.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior designers and engineering staff as appropriate.
  • Continue developing technical knowledge and design expertise through training, professional development, and collaboration with senior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in municipal civil engineering design, with experience in water and wastewater infrastructure preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including grading, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks, and plan production.
  • Working knowledge of HydroCAD, SewerGEMS, WaterGEMS, or comparable hydraulic and hydraulic modeling software.
  • Experience preparing construction plans, specifications, technical reports, and engineering calculations.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations, analyze technical data, and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong understanding of municipal infrastructure design principles, applicable codes, and industry standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project schedules.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites and client meetings (mileage reimbursable).
