About the Role
The Manager, Payroll Services, is responsible for managing payroll services and administering corporate pension plans for Canada Lands Company CLC Limited, including its subsidiaries. This role requires the utmost confidentiality and the ability to balance the needs of various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Process, review, and audit bi-weekly payroll for approximately 350 employees.
- Partner with senior leadership to formulate strategy for payroll services.
- Coordinate with Human Resources on payroll-impacting employee initiatives.
- Review and suggest improvements to payroll processes and procedures.
- Ensure payroll is processed in accordance with Collective Agreements.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of statutory payroll remittances.
- Calculate, review, and process monthly taxable benefits.
- Prepare quarterly financial statement notes relating to Key Management Compensation.
- Prepare annual payroll budget sheets and year-end outlook.
- Provide HR with quarterly payroll benefit results.
- Support internal and external payroll audits.
- Lead payroll system implementations, upgrades, and testing.
- Administer the Company pension plan, including remittances and reporting.
- Administer benefits fees and pension deductions with the pension administration provider.
- Provide support and recommendations to the Company’s Pension Committee.
- Oversee submission of bi-weekly pension contributions.
- Facilitate and assist with annual pension fund audits.
- Coordinate pension education information sessions.
- Ensure compliance with statutory deductions (Federal and Provincial taxes, UIC, CPP/QPP, QPIP, HSF, EHT, WSIB, CSST, and Pension rules).
- Communicate with various government agencies and pension commissions.
- File workers' compensation information for employees across Canada.
- Coordinate year-end processing of all company payroll taxes.
- Prepare all annual government reports (EHT, workers' compensation/CSST(QC), pension plan).
- Prepare and submit annual pension returns.
Requirements
- A diploma from a secondary school is required.
- A minimum of five to seven years of demonstrated experience in payroll administration.
- Experience in a management role is considered a strong asset.
- Experience processing payroll for both unionized and non-unionized employee groups.
- Experience with payroll system setup and implementation is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated functional familiarity with ADP, Workforce Now (“WFN”) payroll system is preferred.
- Demonstrated Excel knowledge and ability is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work at a very high level of attention to detail.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
