About the Role

The Strength and Conditioning Coach will directly supervise the performance training program of assigned Olympic sports teams, contributing to the wellness and competitive performance of cadet-athletes and the readiness of the Army West Point Athletic Department. Responsibilities include programming for individuals and groups, translating scientific evidence into practical recommendations, tracking outcomes, and maintaining facility health and safety, all in adherence to governing body regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Designing yearly sports performance programs for primary teams, including strength, speed, and conditioning.
  • Overseeing analytics, including Polar, Forcedeck analysis, Norbord, wellness questionnaires, and performance testing.
  • Maintaining all information on cadet-athletes.
  • Developing and leading the implementation of a comprehensive strength and conditioning plan for cadet-athletes in collaboration with High-Performance units.
  • Providing daily, weekly, and monthly training reports.
  • Collaborating with nutritionists on nutritional strategies.
  • Designing strength and conditioning protocols for injured athletes.
  • Traveling with primary teams for all away competitions.
  • Communicating with cadet-athletes, coaches, and staff regarding proper technique and physical development plans.
  • Observing and assessing physical movement and sports performance concerns in coordination with the high performance and sports medicine team.
  • Designing sports performance programs for assigned secondary sports, including strength, speed, and conditioning.
  • Assisting with scheduling, maintenance, and supervision of the weight room.
  • Assisting with scheduling for summer training in collaboration with USMA.
  • Maintaining Strength and Conditioning certification and acquiring/maintaining other required credentials and continuing education.
  • Assisting with mentoring of cadets.
  • Assisting with cleaning and organizing the strength facility.
  • Maintaining CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
  • Staying abreast of current sports performance and analytic methods.
  • Conducting oneself in a manner that demonstrates adherence to standards of professional performance.
  • Utilizing effective written and oral communication skills to promote and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, analyzing problems, and developing and implementing effective solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience coaching at the collegiate or professional sports team levels.
  • SCCC or CSCS Certification.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certificate.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional skill to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • General knowledge and willingness to follow NCAA, USMA, Patriot League and other governing bodies’ rules.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to respond quickly and deal successfully under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize assignments and work independently to complete assignments despite various deadlines, competing requirements, and changing priorities.
  • Eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
  • Eligible to work on a military installation, including being willing to submit to a background screen.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
