About the Role

Nucor Business Technology (NBT) is developing next-generation manufacturing software for Nucor's steel operations. This role focuses on building and evolving manufacturing execution systems, including a current homegrown platform and a new MES. You will collaborate with mill-embedded engineers to translate operational needs into reliable, high-quality software. This is a full-time, permanent position focused on building new systems that will shape Nucor's manufacturing processes for decades.

Responsibilities

Develop and evolve Nucor's manufacturing execution systems.
Partner with mill-embedded engineers to understand operational complexity.
Translate real workflows, constraints, and friction into reliable, high-quality software.
Build new systems and shape future manufacturing processes.
Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
3–5 years of experience building and shipping production software.
Proficiency in at least one modern language: Python, C#, or TypeScript/JavaScript.
Working knowledge of AI and LLM integration: prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agent frameworks, or evaluation-driven development.
Experience designing and consuming APIs (REST or GraphQL) and integrating across service boundaries.
Proficiency with AI-assisted development workflows and agentic coding tools.
Demonstrated ability to take ownership of a feature or system from design through delivery.
Legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor will not sponsor visas).
Ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
