Nucor Business Technology (NBT) is developing next-generation manufacturing software for Nucor's steel operations. This role focuses on building and evolving manufacturing execution systems, including a current homegrown platform and a new MES. You will collaborate with mill-embedded engineers to translate operational needs into reliable, high-quality software. This is a full-time, permanent position focused on building new systems that will shape Nucor's manufacturing processes for decades.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and evolve Nucor's manufacturing execution systems.
  • Partner with mill-embedded engineers to understand operational complexity.
  • Translate real workflows, constraints, and friction into reliable, high-quality software.
  • Build new systems and shape future manufacturing processes.
  • Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience building and shipping production software.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern language: Python, C#, or TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Working knowledge of AI and LLM integration: prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agent frameworks, or evaluation-driven development.
  • Experience designing and consuming APIs (REST or GraphQL) and integrating across service boundaries.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development workflows and agentic coding tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of a feature or system from design through delivery.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor will not sponsor visas).
  • Ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
