About the Role

We are seeking an Engineering Lead to own the technical direction and day-to-day engineering operations of our web platform, which integrates learning experiences, learner recognition, portfolio publishing, and tools for contributor participation in game projects. This hands-on role requires deep technical expertise combined with team and delivery management.

Responsibilities

• Drive code standards and technical architecture norms.
• Own the technical/engineering roadmap and architecture.
• Implement best engineering practices, including leveraging AI, improving monitoring & incident response, establishing code review norms, technical documentation, and optimizing QA.
• Participate in thorough code reviews to ensure quality and contribute to team momentum.
• Participate in software engineering with a high degree of proficiency.
• Run day-to-day operations, including standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and issue triage.
• Enhance team communication and collaboration by defining practices such as meeting schedules, rituals, and team updates.
• Report progress against the roadmap to the Product Manager, flagging risks.
• Produce agile estimates for the delivery schedule.
• Communicate priorities within the team and assign resources.
• Raise and resolve impediments that are slowing down progress.
• Act as the primary point of contact between engineers and the rest of the business, providing day-to-day responsiveness for bugs and questions.
• Provide input to the VP Engineering on technical strategy and team needs.
• Validate work in progress against requirements and product intentions.
• Ensure the team understands the product strategy in collaboration with the Product Manager.
• Contribute to roadmap planning and prioritization discussions in collaboration with the Product Manager.
• Translate product requirements into well-defined engineering tickets and team priorities.

Requirements

• Expertise in web development (Javascript/Typescript), working across frontend, backend, and databases.
• Ability to craft complex systems and solve complicated engineering problems.
• Strong engineering team management experience, capable of running day-to-day agile engineering processes for a small team.
• Product collaboration skills, including taking product features from ideation to actionable tickets and contributing to product roadmap formation.
• Meticulous communication and organizational skills, ensuring requests are handled and information is recorded.
• Ability to ensure the team understands project goals, even during rapid changes.
• Regular collaboration with product management, marketing, and other departments.
• Agility and adaptability, regularly using AI technologies to maximize productivity.
• Ability to embody team values and ways of working.
• Comfort working with distributed teams and cultural variance across US, Mexico, Middle East & India.
