About the Role
As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will work closely with other team members to support youth, adults, and families at risk of homelessness to maintain safe, appropriate, and permanent housing. This role is crucial in promoting safety and security for individuals, colleagues, and the community.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with private and non-profit landlords and property management companies to support the landlord-tenant relationship.
- Mediate tenant-landlord conflicts.
- Inform and support landlords and tenants regarding their rights and responsibilities.
- Educate landlords and tenants on the Residential Tenancy Act.
- Navigate situations involving the Landlord and Tenant Board.
- Mitigate tenant-related risks.
- Develop positive relationships with landlords and educate them about diverse populations to reduce stigma and discrimination.
- Collaborate with team members to educate and entice landlords and property managers to participate in solving homelessness.
- Conduct unit inspections at move-in/out.
- Assess cleaning and repairs required in all units.
- Obtain quotes for repairs.
- Liaise with landlords to verify receipt of rent payments from tenants.
- Prepare and maintain statistical data on an ongoing basis to identify trends and develop strategies.
- Work with individuals from diverse populations using a trauma-informed approach.
- Perform administrative tasks and community engagement to support program operations.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education from an accredited institution or relevant work experience (e.g., social services, real estate, property management).
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with diverse populations, including those impacted by mental illness/addictions, systemic injustice, poverty, and homelessness.
- Excellent knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act, Housing First, and harm reduction philosophy, and the local housing market.
- Intermediate / Standard First Aid / CPR with AED - Level C.
- Valid G Class Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Experience using HIFIS 4.0 is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in both official languages of Canada is considered an asset.
- Requires a clear Police Check with vulnerable sector screening at the applicant's cost.
