About the Role

This course explores the shared histories of Indigenous and settler relationships across Turtle Island, focusing on the Canadian context. It provides a practical and conceptual introduction to teaching Social Studies (Grades 4-6) and History and Geography (7-10) within the framework of Indigenous understandings. The course emphasizes instructional methods, assessment strategies, and the integration of Indigenous and Western knowledge systems.

Responsibilities

Prepare, organize, and teach the graduate course.
Be available to students seeking assistance between classes.
Evaluate student work and provide feedback.
Attend pre-course planning meetings with the instructional team.
Attend MT All-Instructor Meetings (AIM).
Submit course syllabus as requested by the department.

Requirements

Possess a doctoral degree or other graduate degree.
Have relevant teacher experience in K-12 settings in a relevant discipline.
Demonstrate currency and mastery of the subject area.
Demonstrate knowledge and practice of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Ontario certification as a teacher is an asset.

Salary/Compensations

Minimum stipend of $9972.475 for a half credit course (as of September 1, 2026 and January 1, 2027). Salary may be prorated based on appointment percentage.
