About the Role

The Toronto Harbour Light Ministries Residential Care Worker is responsible for the well-being and safety of all residents, clients, staff, and visitors by providing professional reception, access control, and security at the main entrance. This role involves monitoring the building through the security camera system and maintaining a high level of courtesy and accuracy in documentation and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety and security for residents, students, volunteers, staff, and visitors.
  • Ensure individuals entering the facility are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Provide front-line reception, including operating a multi-line telephone system and greeting visitors.
  • Log and distribute all documentation to appropriate staff or clients.
  • Respond to emails as required.
  • Generate observational/incident reports and report to appropriate Directors.
  • Conduct hourly facility rounds, including security pass logging for residential, administrative, medical, and common areas.
  • Monitor Resident Passes.
  • Perform shift change procedures, including written reports and transfer of information.
  • Collect urine samples (requested and random).
  • Process security passes/access, including taking pictures and fingerprint scans.
  • Refer individuals to withdrawal management services and hospitals in consultation with management and staff.
  • Assist in the facility fire evacuation plan, including record and monitor attendance and providing fire safety for vulnerable residents.
  • Ensure all facility concerns are entered into the facility management system (Angus Anywhere).
  • Photocopy forms as required.
  • Act as a point person for elevator calls, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have availability for weekend overnight hours (12 AM to 8 AM), including statutory holidays.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods, use a computer, and office phone.
  • Requires continuous environment monitoring and multitasking, moderate attention when reading, close attention listening, and working with numbers.
  • May involve interactions with clients and/or hazardous substances, requiring use of gloves and proper disposal.
  • Must undergo applicable screening and background checks satisfactorily to The Salvation Army.
  • Must provide an original copy of a vulnerable sector check search.

Skills

  • Experience with multi-line telephone systems
  • Experience with security systems
  • Experience in customer service or information desk service
  • Keyboarding and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficiency in email and internet applications
  • Awareness of community resources
  • Experience with EMHware or other client file systems (benefit)
  • WHMIS Training (benefit)

Experience Level

  • Experience within social services sector, and/or mental health agencies

Education Level

  • Up to two (2) years of Community College, preferably within social services sector
  • Alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable

Salary/Compensations

  • $18.65 to $19.32 per hour
