About the Role

Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Center's Safety Program and Transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and directs the operation of the Center’s Safety Department.
  • Provides supervision, training, assessment, and leadership for safety concerns.
  • Implements and administers Center health, safety, environmental, and fire prevention/protection procedures and policies.
  • Performs weekly, monthly, and quarterly environmental inspections.
  • Trains Center Staff to use proper procedures in the event of a disaster and/or emergency.
  • Develops emergency evacuation plans for all buildings.
  • Serves as the contact person for local emergency and disaster officials.
  • Conducts Center Safety Committee Meetings every month.
  • Conducts investigations of accidents, injuries, and illnesses with the goal of resolution and reduction of future occurrences.
  • Provides written and oral reports, briefings, or summaries to appropriate staff.
  • Establishes liaison and maintains harmonious relations with local law enforcement agencies.
  • Manages and administers a departmental budget and works within budgetary constraints.
  • Approves requisitions for safety equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Oversees inventory control and maintenance of safety equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Plans, organizes and controls the use of overtime and on-call staff to ensure compliance with Center and ETR policy and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid commercial Driver’s License Class B with passenger endorsement within three months of hire.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Water Safety Certification.

Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of management practices; proven ability to lead and support a team.
  • Ability to understand, control, and track direct spending and labor budgets.
  • Proven ability in developing, implementing, and managing safety and security programs.
  • Working knowledge of local, state and federal regulations governing workplace safety (OSHA) and security.
  • Ability to conduct risk analysis, threat assessments and protection strategies.
  • Knowledge of internal investigation processes.
  • Excellent student and staff interaction skills.
  • Sound time management, organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proven ability to formulate, develop, implement, and administer policies and procedures related to safety policy.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Reading, writing, and communicating fluently in English
  • Hearing and speaking to express ideas and/or exchange information in person or over the telephone
  • Seeing to read labels, posters, documents, PC Screens, etc.
  • Sitting, standing, moving about, or walking for occasional or frequent periods
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment
  • Kneeling and bending at the waist, stooping and reaching overhead
  • Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and/or lifting light objects.

Experience Level

  • Three years' experience in military, law enforcement, and safety and/or security management.

Education Level

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
