About the Role

The Senior Assessor applies building condition assessment processes and technical standards to conduct asset assessments, identifying asset condition and deficiencies. This role supports project planning and oversight to ensure delivery within scope, budget, and requirements. Projects are typically of low to moderate complexity.

Responsibilities

• Applies knowledge of building condition assessment processes and technical standards in conducting asset assessments, annual building inspections and other specialized asset assessments.
• Conducts asset condition assessments and reporting.
• Identifies and evaluates specialized asset component and systems conditions and deficiencies.
• Completes asset assessment condition reports utilizing asset assessment management software.
• Provides recommendations and cost estimates for building envelopes, components and systems repair or replacement for inclusion in the capital budget plan.
• Leads scheduling and coordinates site activities.
• Acts as a contact person to support new hires in answering questions and problem-solving.
• Supports new hire onboarding activities including virtual/onsite team training and report writing.
• Participates in the review process of all complexity reports and provides timely feedback.
• Performs monthly project tracking of submissions.
• Leads the development of project schedules/maps and ongoing coordination of team schedules.
• Supports the delivery of regular project site notifications and creates work orders.
• Supports the development and update of BCA training material.
• Supports the development and delivery of proposals.
• Takes on new initiatives and challenges with a positive attitude and adapts quickly to change.
• Multi-tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• University degree in a relevant field such as architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical engineering, building science or building engineering.
• 5-8 years of relevant work experience.
• General knowledge of technical standards and processes in completing building condition assessments, particularly ASTM Practice E2018-24.
• Advanced knowledge of the process of cost estimating for replacement and repair of building components and systems.
• General knowledge of building science including base knowledge of architectural building envelope, mechanical and electrical building systems or site components.
• Specialized knowledge in one of the fields of study: Architectural, structural, building envelope, mechanical and electrical building systems.
• General knowledge of general building design, construction and facility operation of commercial buildings.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills are mandatory.
• Must be detailed-oriented with the expectation to perform with minimal errors.
• Proficient with MS Office suite of applications at an intermediate level.
• Possesses a continuous improvement and quality mindset.
• Project management knowledge: ability to support Manager/Director with their activities including delivering projects on-time, on-budget, within specifications and in compliance with all requirements.
• Project team coordination/training: ability to support the Manager/Director with team training, coordinate/develop schedules and work distribution.
• Ability to develop strong client service orientation.
• Ability and experience in building and maintaining effective relationships.
• Ability to take on new initiatives and challenges with a positive attitude and learn quickly.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and prioritize deliverables.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to travel across Canada and US (30-50% of the time).
