About the Role

The Education Coordinator assists in the development and implementation of an educational curriculum that meets NYSED standards for preschool and school-age students with disabilities. This role provides mentoring and training to educational staff and participates in the identification, evaluation, and educational placement of students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain open communication with direct supervisor and upper administration.
  • Identify appropriate curricula for students with disabilities aged 5-22.
  • Oversee appropriate educational curricula for students with disabilities.
  • Provide orientation, ongoing mentoring, and training to educational staff on IEPs, classroom design, program implementation, and behavior management.
  • Serve as a liaison to the NYC Department of Education, District/Regional Offices, and NYS Education Department representatives.
  • Organize and oversee the initial and annual review process for students.
  • Conduct observations and tours of referred students, complete summaries, and assist school districts with appropriate placement.
  • Attend annual reviews as needed.
  • Assist in forming class groupings and staff assignments.
  • Provide Education orientation to new hires on policy and procedures.
  • Participate in the recruitment, identification, and hiring of educational staff.
  • Monitor and encourage parent involvement through meetings and education.
  • Ensure consistent contact between families and school via TEAMS monitoring.
  • Engage in outreach efforts to ensure full enrollment.
  • Conduct school tours for prospective families.
  • Ensure curriculum is developmentally appropriate.
  • Ensure curriculum meets the individual needs of children.
  • Provide mentoring and training to educational staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in education or a related master's program.
  • New York State Certified Teacher or related field.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including IDEA and the New York State Education Department, DOH, and Department of Justice.
  • Ability to stand, sit, use hands, talk, and hear.
  • Ability to walk to and from various locations.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, lift, or push wheelchairs.
  • Ability to perform physical intervention techniques.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and ability to focus.
