About the Role
As an Underwriting Analyst, you will perform technical, administrative, and accounting duties essential for the efficient operation of MR F&C in Canada. This role involves collaborating with internal, external, and global stakeholders, utilizing strong analytical and investigative skills, and applying excellent communication and business acumen.
Responsibilities
- Assist underwriters in preparing and organizing data for single risk pricing tools.
- Clear, review, and enter new business, endorsements, and renewals within established standards.
- Set up electronic folders for submissions, new and renewal business, and endorsements.
- Clear incoming mail/emails in the underwriting system and match them to appropriate files.
- Request and follow up on missing information.
- Review underwriter and peer system entries for accuracy (four-eye principle) and report discrepancies.
- Issue various insurance documents, including FAC certificates and insurance policies.
- Generate status reports as required.
- Prepare renewals and produce client correspondence via email.
- Submit billing and payment information to accounting for client invoicing.
- Reconcile billing and payment discrepancies to support the accounting unit.
- File policy correspondence daily into the Electronic Filing System.
- Analyze data sets to evaluate new and existing business submissions.
- Engage with MR F&C underwriters and leadership team.
- Suggest process improvements to enhance underwriting group efficiency.
- Provide coaching and training to peers as needed.
- Participate in global or local projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education.
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation or progression towards it is an asset.
- Some insurance or finance experience is ideal.
- Strong MS Office skills, particularly with large data sets in Excel.
- College/university degree with emphasis in insurance, business, or accounting preferred.
- Two years of prior insurance or finance experience is ideal.
- Knowledge of and experience with relevant legislation and regulation.
- Background with emphasis on regulatory, re/insurance, corporate, or transactional experience is ideal.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and an eye for accuracy.
- Exceptional computer skills including Microsoft Office, particularly a strong Excel skillset for large data sets.
- Exceptional analytical and investigative competencies.
- High degree of drive, self-motivation, continuing development, and proven ability to work independently.
- Ability to work on a small team, collaboratively, and build strong relationships.
- High degree of flexibility and adaptability to changing environments.
- Ability to work independently and function well under pressure.
- Demonstrated fluency in English.
- Fluency in French (oral and written) is an asset.
- Working knowledge of primary and/or reinsurance underwriting process and coverage is preferred.
- Working knowledge of pricing models, insurance policies, and reinsurance contracts for property/casualty is preferred.
