About the Role

As a member of GM's Human Resources Group, you will lead assigned business functions in day-to-day Human Resources and Labor Relations activities, providing direction and leadership that aligns with company objectives, mission, and culture. You will work strategically with assigned functional business leaders to improve working relationships, develop and enforce contractual terms, build engagement, increase output, and attract/retain talent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide management representation in administering agreements between union and management.
  • Counsel management on agreement interpretation and act as management representative in union dealings.
  • Advise management and plant personnel on Union-Management relationships.
  • Maintain accurate Labor Relations records, including grievance filings, investigations, and local agreements.
  • Play a principal role in local negotiations, partnering with operations to drive competitiveness and enhance employee experience.
  • Share Labor Relations updates and facilitate Shop Committee grievance resolution meetings.
  • Coordinate departments involved in resolving employee grievances.
  • Organize and develop cases for the grievance procedure, including writing grievance responses and identifying supporting documentation.
  • Conduct investigations as needed.
  • Coordinate with plant and unit management on matters concerning hourly personnel.
  • Provide guidance and resolution to conflicts.
  • Administer shop rules when appropriate.
  • Oversee cultural trends related to grievances and proactively address action plans.
  • Ensure proper manpower is maintained and assigned, monitoring attrition, retention, and forecasting using data analytics.
  • Administer hourly hiring, orientation, contractual transfer provisions, and separations.
  • Advise management, union, and hourly employees on seniority issues.
  • Exercise independent judgment within general policies and procedures; receive some direct guidance from supervisor.
  • Collaborate with other work groups (Benefits, Payroll, IT, etc.) regarding employee issues and data problems.
  • Ensure data integrity within Workday for the workforce.
  • Influence the strategic agenda by building relationships at all levels to ensure HR strategy is integrated into business strategy.
  • Work with Sector HR Business Partner to ensure successful completion of Sector and Global Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Support Talent Management Process, collaborating with leaders for talent identification and leadership development.
  • Develop content and lead Sub-HRM meetings.
  • Facilitate annual compensation planning and administration.
  • Interpret human resources management policies and procedures, engaging subject matter experts as needed.
  • Counsel/coach leaders and employees on various matters.
  • Facilitate and/or support internal investigations and Awareline complaints.
  • Support onboarding and orientation for salaried new hires.
  • Ensure human resource transactions are processed accurately and timely using HR systems.
  • Serve as contact for student hiring.
  • Complete HR special projects/assignments as requested.
  • Utilize data analytics to drive decisions regarding talent and staffing strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in Human Resources/Labor Relations
  • Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation, negotiations, and conflict resolution
  • Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and work to plan
  • Ability to coach, counsel, and influence leaders at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive situations and confidential matters
  • Highly proficient use of HR Systems and computer software application skills (i.e., Workday, Kronos, Ethicspoint, etc.)
  • Proficient with Data Analysis, and possess strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Must be able to use independent judgment and work unsupervised
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be shift flexible, as needed

  • 1+ years experience working in a manufacturing and union environment (preferred)
  • UAW contract administration experience (preferred)

  • PHR/SPHR Certification (preferred)

Salary/Compensations

  • $78,800 - $125,900
