About the Role

The University of Rochester is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to provide surgical first assistance during procedures within the Department of Orthopaedics. Responsibilities include direct patient care, documentation, adherence to hospital policies, patient and staff education, and performance improvement initiatives. The APP will support the OR team, initiate emergency evaluations and treatment, and participate in the education of learners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide surgical first assistance during procedures.
  • Document patient care.
  • Adhere to hospital and nursing policies.
  • Educate patients and staff.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Support the OR team by performing necessary tasks to enhance surgical efficiency and quality.
  • Initiate appropriate evaluation and treatment in emergencies.
  • Participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited APRN or PA program.
  • Licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider.
  • A current RNFA certification (for APRNs only).
  • A BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner (for NPs).
  • Active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing (for NPs).
  • Active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing (for NPs).
  • Completion of a RN first assist program (for NPs).
  • Current national certification as an Nurse Practitioner (for NPs).
  • Completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program (for PAs).
  • Active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing (for PAs).
  • Current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA (for PAs).
  • Demonstrate clinical competence.
  • Demonstrate superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills.
  • Demonstrate computer competence.
  • Must have an active desire to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, complex environment (preferred).
  • Proficiency in surgical aseptic technique (preferred).
  • Previous experience in Orthopaedics, General Surgery, or Ambulatory Surgery (preferred).
