About the Role

THOR Solutions is seeking a Software Engineer III with a focus on AI/ML to develop a tool for the U.S. Navy that automates the comparison of engineering drawings. This role involves building an image processing pipeline and a local language model to generate comparison reports. The position is a short-term, approximately 5-month full-time effort.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate a computer vision pipeline for detecting differences between engineering drawings.
• Develop and deploy a locally hosted language model to interpret comparison output and generate draft reports.
• Build and maintain a secure, engineer-facing web interface for reviewing and annotating AI-generated findings.
• Implement drawing ingestion and normalization routines supporting multiple file formats (PDF, TIFF, CGM, DXF, JPEG).
• Ensure all software components are deployable on existing on-premise hardware without cloud dependency.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, including design documents, API references, and user guides.

Requirements

• Existing active or interim Secret security clearance required.
• Only U.S. citizens will be considered.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering) or equivalent experience/certifications.
• At least ten (10) years of professional software engineering experience.
• Recent experience with AI/ML concepts and development.
• Experience applying programming concepts.
• Experience applying modern software development methodologies (e.g., agile, DevOps/DevSecOps).
• Experience deploying and optimizing large language models for CPU-based inference in resource-constrained environments.
• Familiarity with DoD or Navy IT environments, network security requirements, or government-managed infrastructure.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent communication skills.
