About the Role
THOR Solutions is seeking a Software Engineer III with a focus on AI/ML to develop a tool for the U.S. Navy that automates the comparison of engineering drawings. This role involves building an image processing pipeline and a local language model to generate comparison reports. The position is a short-term, approximately 5-month full-time effort.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and integrate a computer vision pipeline for detecting differences between engineering drawings.
- Develop and deploy a locally hosted language model to interpret comparison output and generate draft reports.
- Build and maintain a secure, engineer-facing web interface for reviewing and annotating AI-generated findings.
- Implement drawing ingestion and normalization routines supporting multiple file formats (PDF, TIFF, CGM, DXF, JPEG).
- Ensure all software components are deployable on existing on-premise hardware without cloud dependency.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including design documents, API references, and user guides.
Requirements
- Existing active or interim Secret security clearance required.
- Only U.S. citizens will be considered.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering) or equivalent experience/certifications.
- At least ten (10) years of professional software engineering experience.
- Recent experience with AI/ML concepts and development.
- Experience applying programming concepts.
- Experience applying modern software development methodologies (e.g., agile, DevOps/DevSecOps).
- Experience deploying and optimizing large language models for CPU-based inference in resource-constrained environments.
- Familiarity with DoD or Navy IT environments, network security requirements, or government-managed infrastructure.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent communication skills.
