About the Role

Project Engineers are responsible for the successful delivery of small to medium size building projects, or working as part of a large team responsible for an area on major projects, including developing concepts and producing the design.

Responsibilities

  • Improves engineering design and design processes in a particular discipline.
  • Identifies new trends in Engineering design and their application to projects.
  • Manages projects and leads technical improvement initiatives, dedicating 10% of time.
  • Estimates project manpower, manages project communications, monitors budgets, organizes deliverables, and sets project standards.
  • Develops typical details, specifications, and drawing standards, including Revit standards in coordination with the BIM team.
  • Stays updated on industry and technology changes, recommending appropriate changes in approach and services.
  • Improves analytic processes and documentation, common solutions, and critical solutions.
  • Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.
  • Manages project engineering for small to medium sized projects (less than $80m) from concept through commissioning, dedicating 90% of time.
  • Manages project engineering for segments of large projects (over $100m), supporting a Senior Project Engineer.
  • Provides design inputs and reviews for other engineers' projects.
  • Attends client meetings and promotes positive client contact.
  • Participates as a team member, contributing ideas and solutions, and leading where appropriate.
  • Performs site visit surveys to determine engineering strategies for renovation and to document/evaluate existing systems.
  • Visits project sites during construction for reviews of quality, progress, and compliance.
  • Conducts project reviews at all stages of design.
  • Ensures quality and timely delivery of projects within budget.
  • Seeks input from senior staff on technical matters to improve projects.
  • Supports business development as needed, including writing project descriptions, presenting work, and preparing fee estimates.
  • Collaborates with architects on concepts for project competitions.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and profitability of the Engineering Discipline.
  • Ensures quality of design solutions, focusing on integration, unique solutions, sustainability, and peer recognition.
  • Produces high-quality work, measured by completeness, absence of change orders, and client satisfaction.
  • Fosters cohesiveness within the discipline team through work sharing, consistent quality, and effective communication.
  • Contributes to client repeat business and new work acquisition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Licensed PE if MEP Engineer.
  • Licensed SE if Structural Engineer in states with SE license, PE or CE / PE in other states.
  • LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred.
  • Experience in delivering projects over $20m and up to $80m in construction value.
  • 5 years project engineering experience, from design development to opening, with one completed high profile project.
  • Experience working in integrated teams.
  • Experience in design and delivery of LEED Silver or higher projects.
  • Experience with architecturally significant buildings is a plus.
  • Experience with potential project types in commercial, corporate, institutional and civic, justice, aviation, and healthcare sectors is a plus.
  • Mechanical: Experience with complex analysis tools and energy modeling for mechanical design.
  • Mechanical: Experience in calculating, sizing, and specifying mechanical equipment including AHU’s, pumps, and fans.
  • Mechanical: Experience with heat gain calculations for spaces for energy modeling and detailed engineering of mechanical systems.
  • Mechanical: Experience with specification editing and construction phases.
  • Mechanical: Experience with engineering of chilled beam systems, radiant systems, micro-climates, and under floor air a plus.
  • Electrical: Experience with complex analysis tools for electrical design.
  • Electrical: Experience with architecturally significant buildings, controls and commissioning, central plants, multi-emergency generator systems, and mission critical buildings a plus.
  • Structural: Experience with complex analysis tools for Structural design.
  • Able to work creatively to reach solutions to complex problems.
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Mechanical: Design of mechanical air and piping systems for small complex buildings or areas or systems of larger buildings.
  • Electrical: Design of medium, and low voltage systems.
  • Electrical: Design of electrical systems for small complex buildings.
  • Electrical: Design of Fire Alarm and Life Safety systems for small complex buildings.
  • Structural: Design of structural systems for small complex buildings.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Overtime may be required.
