About the Role
As an Associate Structural Engineer, you will manage the Structures/Transportation group, monitor project delivery, and ensure profitability while maintaining technical quality and professionalism. Responsibilities
- Lead the design, management, and supervision of project delivery, including establishing client briefs, technical requirements, scope of works, and cost plans.
- Execute structural engineering projects from concept to completion, including detailed design, tender, and on-site supervision.
- Manage design teams to produce coordinated, technically compliant designs of consistent quality.
- Ensure all design projects and reports are technically compliant and maintain consistent quality.
- Implement and manage QA systems and procedures on all projects.
- Implement Company Health and Safety policies and ensure designs comply with CDM regulations.
- Monitor and control project progress, design variations, and financial budgets.
- Lead the monitoring of project resources.
- Maintain excellent client relationships to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
- Pursue new business opportunities with existing and new clients, including leading bid and proposal preparation.
- Motivate and manage staff to build high-performing teams, setting objectives, monitoring performance, and coaching staff.
- Be familiar with various Engineering Conditions of Contract.
- Continuously adopt Civil and Structural engineering rules and regulations to protect the company's reputation and Professional Indemnity.
Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered or working towards Chartership (IStructE or ICE preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of industry experience, preferably within a design consultancy.
- Expertise in leading and managing structural projects across aviation, highway & roads, rail/transit, and maritime sectors.
- Strong knowledge of UK design standards and regulations.
- Thorough understanding of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the roles of Designer and Principal Designer.
- Proficiency in industry-standard software (e.g., Tekla, Tedds, ETABS, Robot, Revit).
- Experience in leading client bid and proposal production, including financial planning and contractual assessments.
- Knowledge of public sector frameworks is a plus.
- Commercial awareness and experience managing project finances.
- Confident communicator with leadership ambition.
- Leadership and people management skills and experience preferred.
