About the Role

As an Associate Structural Engineer, you will manage the Structures/Transportation group, monitor project delivery, and ensure profitability while maintaining technical quality and professionalism. This role is within a 100% employee-owned organization that offers opportunities for career advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, management, and supervision of project delivery, including establishing client briefs, technical requirements, scope of works, and cost plans.
  • Execute structural engineering projects from concept to completion, including detailed design, tender, and on-site supervision.
  • Manage design teams to produce coordinated, technically compliant designs of consistent quality.
  • Ensure all design projects and reports are technically compliant and maintain consistent quality.
  • Implement and manage QA systems and procedures on all projects.
  • Implement Company Health and Safety policies and ensure designs comply with CDM regulations.
  • Monitor and control project progress, design variations, and financial budgets.
  • Lead the monitoring of project resources.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Pursue new business opportunities with existing and new clients, including leading bid and proposal preparation.
  • Motivate and manage staff to build high-performing teams, setting objectives, monitoring performance, and coaching staff.
  • Be familiar with various Engineering Conditions of Contract.
  • Continuously adopt Civil and Structural engineering rules and regulations to protect the company's reputation and Professional Indemnity.

Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership (IStructE or ICE preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of industry experience, preferably within a design consultancy.
  • Expertise in leading and managing structural projects across aviation, highway & roads, rail/transit, and maritime sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of UK design standards and regulations.
  • Thorough understanding of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the roles of Designer and Principal Designer.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software (e.g., Tekla, Tedds, ETABS, Robot, Revit).
  • Experience in leading client bid and proposal production, including financial planning and contractual assessments.
  • Knowledge of public sector frameworks is a plus.
  • Commercial awareness and experience managing project finances.
  • Confident communicator with leadership ambition.
  • Leadership and people management skills and experience preferred.
