Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in a friendly manner whether on the phone or in person.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal physicians and with scheduling staff at facilities.
  • Verify patient personal and insurance information and coordinate pre-op testing per insurance.
  • Serve as a single point-of-contact for internal staff and external inquiries for all scheduled procedures.
  • Schedule and/or reschedule pre-op lab and/or other testing before procedures and surgeries if necessary.
  • Contact patients to confirm procedures/surgeries.
  • Explain and verify proper prep instructions with patients, routing to a nurse if appropriate.
  • Prepare all essential paperwork for referral coordinators and facilities.
  • Verify daily doctor's schedules, print, and distribute to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain the strictest patient confidentiality.
  • Work with billing staff to ensure all procedures are charged.
  • Cover/fill-in for co-workers as needed.
  • Track case volume and direct cases to facilities per direction of management team.

Requirements

  • Medical terminology, verbal and written.
  • CPT and ICD-9 coding.
  • Referral process knowledge.
  • Ability to learn new computer programs.
  • Act professionally towards customers, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Possess time management skills.
  • 2+ years prior surgery scheduling, telephone, computer, and customer service experience.
