About the Role
East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan that believes education is key to creating opportunities. The SONYC Program aligns with this mission by providing high-quality programs and services. The Program Assistant is responsible for maintaining a safe and educational learning environment for young children by implementing program curriculum and daily activities, and providing office and program support.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the COMPASS Program.
- Work with the Education Specialist to review and update curriculum, educational objectives, and program design.
- Prepare and submit reports to program leadership.
- Develop and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues and building staff.
- Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and supervision of COMPASS part-time staff.
- Oversee coordination of program schedules, calendars, and vacation coverage.
- Oversee the development and implementation of daily programming and review lesson plans.
- Coordinate regular communication with COMPASS families, including newsletters, flyers, events, and parent-teacher nights.
- Conduct parent and parent/child conferences as necessary.
- Develop and support COMPASS staff in coordinating special events.
- Adhere to policies and procedures, prioritizing the safety and care of children.
- Ensure effective administrative systems are in place to support COMPASS classrooms and maintain clean programming areas.
- Monitor and guide proper student behavior continuously.
- Support the emotional and social development of students.
- Maintain accurate and organized records, such as attendance, snack, time sheets, and incident reports.
- Monitor transitions to the cafeteria and ensure upkeep of the space.
- Oversee compliance with ESH, DYCD, DOE, and DOH standards.
- Attend Agency and DOE wide events.
- Co-facilitate staff meetings and support the development of agenda items.
- Manage supply inventory and submit purchase requests.
- Continue professional development by attending department meetings and trainings.
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
- Perform special projects and other duties as needed.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly observations and site walkthroughs.
Requirements
- Minimum High School Diploma.
- One year of administrative experience.
- Knowledgeable of youth development principles and practices.
- Two years of experience working with Elementary youth or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work in team settings and with diverse individuals.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Employees must be clear to work at ESH.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and/or screenings.
- Must obtain NYC Dept. of Health fingerprint clearance and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance ($25 fee).
- Complete Mandated Reporter training (2 hours).
- Complete Health & Safety Training (5 hours).
