About the Role
Oneida Health is seeking a full-time Medical Office Assistant for their Woman's Health office in Oneida. This role combines clinical and administrative duties, reporting to the Practice Manager. The ideal candidate will be a team player with strong customer service skills, capable of working independently.
Responsibilities
- Rooms patients, obtains and documents chief compliant, vital signs, height, weight, and allergies.
- Records and reconciles medications, including OTC drugs and smoking status.
- Identifies barriers to medication adherence and treatment goal achievement.
- Assists providers with procedures and examinations, ensuring necessary documents are signed.
- Attends to patient and visitor needs, reassuring patients and answering questions.
- Provides patient education and self-management tools.
- Informs patients about medications and collaborates on treatment goals.
- Performs directed treatments and procedures within scope and training (e.g., EKG, POC testing, phlebotomy, tympanometry).
- Does not handle or administer medication.
- Ensures orderly patient flow, communicating delays to the team.
- Performs pre-visit planning and maintains medical records, including scanning and filing reports and information.
- Tracks overdue labs and imaging for assigned patient panels, flags abnormal results, and notifies patients of test results under physician direction.
- Contacts patients for follow-up care after ED or hospital admissions, obtaining discharge summaries.
- Assists with routine equipment checks and stocks exam and treatment rooms.
- Places necessary orders from Central Supply and Pharmacy.
- Participates in routine exam room cleaning.
- Facilitates and executes physician orders, scheduling exams/tests, and preparing prescriptions/instructions.
- Answers telephones and directs sick calls or prescription refill requests to the appropriate nurse.
- Coordinates and schedules referrals, surgeries, imaging, labs, and other medical tests.
- Ensures appropriate follow-up arrangements for patients and monitors referral return information.
- Prepares and sends referrals with CCD and inquires about self-referrals.
- Performs administrative duties and discusses insurance claims for pre-certification and pre-authorization.
- Assists providers with resuscitation and CPR during anaphylactic reactions or Code Blue events, ensuring Code procedures are followed and documented.
- Actively participates in quality improvement activities and staff meetings.
- Communicates effectively with team members to ensure smooth workflow and meet patient needs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred)
- 1 year of Medical Office experience (Preferred)
- 1 year of Computer Skills experience (Preferred)
