About the Role

Business Data Analysts collect, analyze, and interpret business data to aid organizations in making informed decisions, improving operational efficiency, and achieving strategic objectives. They collaborate with stakeholders, IT teams, and management to identify trends, develop insights, and translate data into actionable recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and document business and data requirements through workshops and stakeholder interviews.
  • Perform data profiling, data discovery, and impact analysis across multiple source systems.
  • Analyze source-to-target mappings, business rules, transformations, and reconciliation requirements.
  • Identify Critical Data Elements (CDEs) and define business attributes, data ownership, and usage requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into user stories, functional specifications, and process flows.
  • Document end-to-end business and technical data lineage from source systems to reporting and consumption layers.
  • Map data flows, transformations, dependencies, and controls across upstream and downstream systems.
  • Identify lineage gaps, inconsistencies, and risks, and coordinate remediation activities.
  • Support lineage tooling and metadata management platforms such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, or Informatica Data Governance.
  • Support implementation of Data Governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating models.
  • Develop and maintain business glossaries, data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and governance artifacts.
  • Partner with Data Owners and Data Stewards to define ownership, accountability, and governance controls.
  • Facilitate governance forums, workshops, and data stewardship activities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal governance standards.
  • Define data quality rules, monitoring metrics, and control frameworks.
  • Perform root cause analysis of data issues and work with stakeholders on remediation plans.
  • Support data quality assessments, reconciliations, and control testing.
  • Track and report governance KPIs, data quality metrics, and issue resolution progress.
