About the Role
This course inquires into a range of equity issues including teacher candidates' biases, dispositions, ideas, and positionality; relationships between students, teachers, community, administrators, and families; systemic oppressions within K-12 schooling; and the interlocking social, economic, and political reproduction of inequalities. The course develops teacher candidates' capacity to interrogate and challenge discriminatory practices in education, focusing on theories and practices of liberation pedagogies. This special pathway course is designed for students in the Black Future Educators Pathway (BFEP), requiring extensive experience with BFEP and in-depth knowledge of its mission and support for Black-identifying teacher candidates.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, organize, and teach this graduate course.
- Be available to students seeking assistance between classes.
- Evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work.
- Attend a pre-course planning/preparation meeting with the course instructional team.
- Attend MT All-Instructor Meetings (AIM).
- Submit course syllabus as requested by the department.
Requirements
- Possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter.
- Demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant.
- Demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates' professional learning.
- Have experience with curriculum development, designing, and facilitating lessons.
- Have extensive experience with the Black Future Educators’ Pathway (BFEP).
- Demonstrate depth of knowledge of BFEP’s mission and the key elements that contribute to the success of BFEP.
- Demonstrate experience as a transformative leader in anti-Black racism, equity and social justice.
- Have demonstrated strengths and skills in communication and collaboration.

Salary/Compensations
- Minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course, effective September 1, 2026 and January 1, 2027. Salary may be prorated based on appointment percentage.
