About the Role

CBC News in southwestern Ontario is looking for an experienced and dynamic producer to help lead the creation of original and engaging visual journalism on our digital, social and broadcast platforms. You will collaborate with journalists to set the news agenda and connect audiences to the information they need. You are a strategic thinker with a deep knowledge of digital, broadcast and social media strategies and trends, prioritizing audience needs and growth. You will strive to broaden the range of perspectives and experiences reflected in our news content, especially those from underrepresented groups.

Responsibilities

  • Work with producers, reporters, associate producers, VJs, video producers and editors to conceive of and produce digital-first visual content for daily and feature programming.
  • Determine story treatments, vet scripts and video, and plan video content rollouts for digital and social channels.
  • Produce live programming across video platforms with journalists in the newsroom and in the field.
  • Provide editorial oversight to ensure content is original, relevant, impactful, and meets journalistic standards.
  • Collaborate with various teams across platforms and locations to ensure visual content reaches the widest possible audience.
  • Create best practices and streamline workflows for digital video platforms.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to journalists to help them develop their skills and produce high-quality content.
  • Assist with planning coverage for special projects and events.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced daily multi-platform news environment.
  • Strong journalistic and critical thinking skills, including knowledge of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and related legal/ethical issues.
  • Ability to manage and organize large volumes of fast-moving information and quickly redirect resources.
  • Knowledge of and experience in assigning and creating visual content for digital, social, and television platforms, including vetting, editing, fact-checking, and packaging.
  • Experience producing live visual content from the field and/or control room.
  • Experience executing digital and social strategies, including setting objectives, tracking results, and reporting on outcomes.
  • A high-energy leader with a positive, team-first attitude and demonstrated ability to motivate, coach teams, and encourage creativity.
  • A strong proven connection to the communities served in southwestern Ontario, with a deep understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives and lived experiences.
  • A keen desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence and a driving record meeting CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance requirements.
  • University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of five years of journalism experience.
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
  • Candidates may be subject to a background check, including a mandatory Criminal record check.
