About the Role

The Energy Manager will provide leadership for reducing energy consumption across the Progress of Peoples Management affordable housing portfolio, collaborating with real estate teams to implement energy-saving opportunities. This role involves strategizing on proactive courses of action to monitor the fiscal and physical health of the housing portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze energy consumption across 34 projects to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for savings and improvement.
  • Lead the organization’s efforts to develop carbon reduction and electrification goals and plans.
  • Develop and implement an Energy Management Plan, aligning with NYSERDA’s Scope of Work requirements.
  • Establish and maintain an energy-tracking and reporting system to ensure compliance with NYSERDA and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead a cross-functional energy team, coordinating regular meetings to track energy performance and best practices.
  • Integrate energy efficiency measures into capital planning and facilities operations.
  • Conduct walkthrough audits to identify and prioritize energy-saving initiatives.
  • Develop a Measurement & Verification (M&V) strategy to evaluate the effectiveness of energy efficiency projects.
  • Identify operational savings opportunities by reviewing maintenance operational schedules and procedures, and audit reports.
  • Lead monthly project management check-ins with NYSERDA.
  • Develop and implement training programs for maintenance and property management staff on energy efficiency and operational best practices.
  • Facilitate regular check-ins with NYSERDA representatives and submit required quarterly and final reports.
  • Ensure energy tracking system is fully implemented within 3 months.
  • Achieve % energy reduction goal within 12 and 24 months.
  • Submit quarterly and final reports to NYSERDA on time.
  • Complete walkthrough audits and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Execute at least one major energy efficiency project during the first 24 months.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, energy management, or real estate sustainability.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure.
  • Experience in energy tracking software and reporting tools for compliance and savings verification.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing maintenance teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Able to travel throughout the five boroughs as needed.
  • Ability to respond to 24-hour emergencies by phone.
