About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Engineer to ensure the continuous safety and accessibility of Jane Street’s data. This role involves hands-on work in data centres, process optimization, and project management, collaborating with diverse teams to enhance data environments and proactively address potential issues.
Responsibilities
- Design plans for new equipment deployments using data centre best practices
- Coordinate logistical tasks across locations, including procurement, shipping, moving, and inventory management of equipment, cabling, and parts
- Install and configure server OS in a PXE environment
- Install, cable, configure, and troubleshoot various types of network and server equipment
- Ensure data centres maintain high standards in security, organization, documentation, safety, cleanliness, and supply management
- Provide on-location services crucial to daily operations in London and impact remote locations across EMEA
Requirements
- Ideally 5+ years of experience in a data centre environment
- Strong understanding of data centre best practices
- Strong understanding of cabling methodology
- Experience managing vendors
- A self-starter mindset with initiative and a drive for continuous improvement
- Clear communication with excellent people and project management skills
- Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends
- Fluency in English is required
Skills
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals
- Ability to troubleshoot Layer 2 and 3 connectivity issues
- Proficiency in a Linux environment
- Scripting skills in Bash or Python are a plus
- Experience deploying server and network hardware (e.g., Dell, Cisco, Arista, Ciena, Corning, Ortronics products)
- Ability to design, deploy, test, and troubleshoot copper and fibre cabling
