About the Role

We are seeking intelligent and inquisitive individuals to join our expanding team and advance our Machine Learning initiatives. You will develop deep learning models for our trading strategies, leveraging a substantial GPU computing cluster. The role involves tackling unique trading challenges, such as large models and non-stationary datasets in a competitive multi-agent environment, necessitating the exploration of novel techniques. Collaboration is key, with researchers, engineers, and traders working closely to train models, design systems, and execute trading strategies. Your expertise in the ML landscape and various approaches (LLMs, image models, RL agents, recommendation systems, classical ML) will shape the future of ML at Jane Street. You will train models for next-generation deep learning trading strategies and develop foundational knowledge for new markets. Responsibilities also include hiring, attending conferences, and mentoring teammates.

Requirements

Practical experience working on empirical ML problems
Ability to apply logical and mathematical thinking to all kinds of problems
Intellectual curiosity and excitement about state-of-the-art research across many ML problem domains
Fluency with a versatile set of models and tricks
Hands-on coding skills for rapid implementation and iteration in Python and your favorite ML framework
Eagerness to ask questions, admit mistakes, and learn new things
