About the Role

The BUILDING OPERATOR is responsible for planning and undertaking mechanical operations, maintenance, communications, and energy management to ensure the continuous operation of plant equipment and machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and undertaking of all mechanical operations, maintenance, communications, and energy management.
  • Performing operations and undertaking preventative maintenance to ensure the continuous operation of plant’s equipment/machinery.
  • Diagnosing problems of equipment/machinery; providing feedback to ensure new construction and/or modification will not impact existing systems.
  • Inspection of the facility / mechanical rooms; repairing equipment / machinery.
  • Contributing to the efficient operation of the department.
  • Performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required.
  • Performing other duties consistent with the classification, as deemed necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum completion of high school or recognized equivalent.
  • A Certificate or Diploma in Building Operations, or a 3rd or 4th Class Stationary Engineer Certificate (TSSA), or a recognized licensed trade certification (HVAC, Plumbing, Millwright, Electrician).
  • If licensed trade, possession of the provincial Certificate of Qualifications (COQ).
  • Minimum 2 years practical hands on experience in facilities operation and equipment / machinery maintenance.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
  • Ability to work on his own / multi tasking and exercise initiative and good judgement.
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical / electrical blueprints.
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including: able to lift 11 kg to 20 kg.
  • Current UHN employees must have successfully completed their probationary period, have a good employee record along with satisfactory attendance in accordance with UHN's attendance management program, to be eligible for consideration.

Skills
