About the Role

Stantec's Water Practice is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector in the Greater Toronto Region to work on challenging and diverse medium to large projects. This consulting construction management role requires technical skills, project delivery expertise, and leadership for projects including linear infrastructure like watermains and sewers, as well as vertical structures such as Water & Wastewater Treatment plants and pumping stations. The role demands expertise in concrete pressure pipe (CPP) installation on large diameter watermains, including tunneling, and requires independent judgment for work quality objectives. A strong understanding of linear conveyance projects, construction documents, stakeholder relationships, and quality/safety requirements for public construction projects is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide single-point field inspection of the construction contractor’s work representing the Construction Manager.
  • Daily monitor, inspect, and document the construction contractor’s work, preparing comprehensive written Daily Reports.
  • Communicate directly with construction contractors regarding conformance to standards, plans, specifications, and codes.
  • Ensure Contractor prepares prompt requests for information (RFIs) and review project submittals and RFI responses.
  • Review, analyze, and document construction issues potentially impacting scope, time, or cost.
  • Review and maintain master as-built and record drawing information.
  • Attend Weekly Progress Meetings with Contractor, reviewing progress against the planned schedule.
  • Develop project-specific quality control and quality assurance documents and standards.
  • Ensure all field testing and inspections are performed in accordance with Contract Documents.
  • Document compliance and non-compliance with established quality control and quality assurance procedures.
  • Work with Construction Manager / Resident Engineer to implement methodology and criteria to resolve non-compliance notices.
  • Review and submit all test reports for inclusion in turnover documentation.
  • Prepare written reports documenting QA/QC inspections, non-compliance notices, and corrective actions.
  • Observe, document, and approve authorized Force Account change order work.
  • Review the monthly progress pay estimate submitted by the construction contractor.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage a project punch list for deficient or uncompleted work.
  • Exercise initiative and independent judgment in adapting procedures and resolving issues.

Requirements

  • Expertise with the installation of CPP (concrete pressure pipe) on large diameter watermains including tunneling.
