About the Role

The Community Relations and Program Improvement Specialist will contribute to the daily operations of the Family Enrichment Center (FEC) by developing and maintaining a parent or advisory group, cultivating relationships with community groups, and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere. The role focuses on building connections to support family protective factors through engaging communication.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the FEC at community events, fostering positive relationships.
  • Build and nurture partnerships with community organizations and public institutions.
  • Develop guides, toolkits, and resources to increase awareness and access to the FEC.
  • Support the connection of caregivers and families to local resources and services.
  • Utilize interpersonal, community organizing, collaboration, and advocacy skills.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with community stakeholders for relevant programming.
  • Identify and engage with community stakeholders, including residents and local businesses.
  • Create and disseminate resource material and referral information.
  • Co-manage the FEC website/social media accounts and other outreach access points.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute outreach events, workshops, and activities.
  • Train community advisory board, program staff, and interns in outreach and engagement skills.
  • Identify and develop emerging community leaders for advisory roles.
  • Engage community members, especially youth and young adults, in strategies to strengthen problem-solving skills, provide mentoring, and life skills support.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations, schools, and public institutions.
  • Serve as a liaison between RiseBoro and the community, responding to inquiries and addressing concerns.
  • Create tools to increase resident awareness of and ability to connect to local resources.
  • Attend and participate in Community Board meetings and school meetings.
  • Identify and maintain up-to-date information on key community issues impacting children, youth, and families.
  • Promote opportunities for youth, families, and community residents to participate in FEC program planning.
  • Supervise interns and volunteers, when required.
  • Collaborate with FEC staff, community advisory board, and funders to develop, track, and evaluate program efforts.
  • Collaborate with FEC staff, parent/caregiver members, and ACS to develop and maintain feedback, performance measurement, and quality assurance systems.
  • Establish an anonymous, voluntary membership engagement system.
  • Design and submit recurring reports documenting deliverables and programmatic elements.
  • Participate in learning collaboratives to develop a system for continuous learning and growth.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the FEC model and standards.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Brownsville community preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in community organizing, building partnerships, and/or community-led programs preferred.
  • Ability to influence others to be excited and committed to furthering RiseBoro’s goals.
  • Ability to use personal experience with disability, mental illness, criminal legal system, justice, special education, substance use disorder, and/or foster care to assist in supporting the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and/or present to groups.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain positive relationships.
  • Possess a positive attitude and entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Experience in building and implementing performance measurement, quality assurance, and continuous improvement systems for community-driven programs preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
