About the Role
As an Overnight Child Care Worker, you’ll be a steady presence for children and teens who have experienced significant trauma. In this role, you’ll help create a sense of structure, safety, and security as they navigate daily life in a residential setting. Your support will be a key part of a young person’s healing journey.
Responsibilities
- Help create a sense of structure, safety, and security for youth in a residential setting.
- Support young people through their healing journey.
- Form positive relationships with youth.
- Understand and respond to youth's basic developmental needs.
- Understand and follow agency policy and Trauma Informed Care orientation.
- Ask age and developmentally appropriate questions and actively listen to youth’s responses.
- Develop a warm, positive, nurturing relationship with each youth.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements regarding child abuse and neglect.
- Practice infection control, including appropriate hand washing procedures.
- Assist youth in participating at their individual level of interest and ability.
- Use observation to understand youth's interests and developmental levels.
- Interact with children during meal and snack times, promoting appropriate social behavior.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and environments.
- Adapt activities and environments to meet the special needs and situations of individual youth.
- Identify developmentally appropriate behavior and reasonable expectations for youth’s behavior.
- Role model and teach appropriate behavior to youth.
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times.
Requirements
- Minimum high school or equivalency diploma required.
- Some higher education preferred.
- Experience working with juvenile justice involved youth highly desirable.
- Sufficient maturity to work with and relate to youth required.
- Commitment to following and embracing the Seven Commitments of our Sanctuary Model.
- Valid New York State drivers license.
