About the Role

Humber River Health is seeking an Utility Transport Aide to operate and maintain flusher disinfector cleaners, manage equipment inventory, and support nursing care through the provision of supplies and hardware. This role is crucial for maintaining efficient unit activities and ensuring the availability of necessary medical supplies.

Responsibilities

• Understand and comply with Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures.
• Seek clarification when unsure of a policy, a procedure or an assignment.
• Sign in and out of shifts via computer (Meditech).
• Pick up Ascom phone and sign out.
• Test the disinfectors.
• Operate Flusher Disinfector Cleaner: Arjo Tornado and Typhoon.
• Track Arjo usage and disinfect Arjo machines on a weekly basis.
• Ensure complete inventory of hardware and specified equipment for each assigned area.
• Perform RTLS equipment battery checks and replacements.
• Stock Clean Equipment room with appropriate stock levels of hardware.
• Coordinate departmental needs with SPD, including pick up/delivery times and re-ordering of hardware.
• Pick up soiled instruments.
• Dispose of any cracked or damaged hardware.
• Work collaboratively with Environmental Services and SPD personnel to ensure timely availability of medical/surgical supplies.
• Wipe down disinfector each day.
• Report incomplete assignments, malfunctioning equipment, or exceptional events to the dispatch call center, IPAC department, and Director of Projects & Biomedical Engineering.
• Act in accordance with the commitment to safe and compassionate patient care and a safe and healthy work environment.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
• Perform patient portering and soiled carts transport at the RCC site.
• Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
• Use or wear equipment or protective devices or clothing for safety purposes.
• Report any contravention of the Act or regulations or the existence of any hazards to their manager.
• Have knowledge and understanding of the Internal Responsibility System (IRS) in relation to the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Attend all required Health and Safety training.

Requirements

• Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (attend training as required).
• Knowledge and understanding of Reprocessing and Sterile Supply Processing.
• Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) or Sterile College certification required.
• Knowledge of medical supplies and high-level disinfection equipment required.
• Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Standards.
• Two years of recent related hospital medical/surgical supply experience.
• Grade 12 education or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to cope frequently and for long periods of time with physical demands such as walking, bending, pushing, and heavy lifting (ability to lift 25-30 pounds repeatedly).
• Ability to handle stressful situations in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to operate, with training, machinery, i.e. Disinfectors.
• Ability to function while wearing personal protective equipment-gowns, gloves, eyewear and masks.
• Effective Customer Service skills required.
• Excellent attendance and discipline-free record required.
• An understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset.
