About the Role
The Director, Space Management & Operational Readiness provides leadership and oversight for organization-wide space management, operational readiness, and transition planning to support growth, redevelopment, and modernization. This role optimizes the planning, utilization, and activation of clinical and administrative spaces while ensuring facilities are equipped to deliver safe, patient-centred care.
Responsibilities
- Ensure efficient workflows, safety, accessibility, and compliance with healthcare design and regulatory standards.
- Establish organization-wide furniture standards supporting consistency, infection control, and ergonomics.
- Manage furniture and non-clinical equipment procurement, budgets, vendor relationships, and RFP processes.
- Promote safe environments through ergonomic design, workflow optimization, and risk mitigation.
- Maintain design standards incorporating evidence-based design, sustainability, and operational best practices.
- Oversee space utilization, inventory management, occupancy analysis, and move coordination.
- Direct operational readiness and transition planning, including activation strategies and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate with clinical leaders to implement future-state models of care and optimize workflows.
- Lead workforce readiness initiatives including staffing, training, and change management.
- Oversee facility activation, commissioning, and testing for occupancy readiness.
- Develop risk management, emergency preparedness, and business continuity plans.
- Provide strategic leadership for departmental operations, financial management, and organizational transformation.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management, Healthcare Planning, or Facilities Management.
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, Engineering, Planning, or equivalent.
- 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare redevelopment, facilities planning, or operational readiness.
- Minimum five years of management experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale redevelopment, capital infrastructure, or transition projects.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare planning principles, building codes, and accessibility legislation.
- Proven expertise in stakeholder engagement, change management, and project governance.
- Demonstrated experience managing operating and capital budgets.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in complex healthcare environments.
