About the Role
The Medical Office Assistant (MPA) is an administrative role responsible for managing patient check-in, coordinating provider schedules, verifying insurance, collecting payments, and obtaining prior authorizations. This role ensures patient satisfaction and efficient office operations.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the front desk is neat, presentable, and equipped with necessary supplies.
- Greet patients professionally in person and on the phone.
- Facilitate correspondence with customers, patients, and colleagues.
- Confirm provider name, appointment time, pre-visit e-forms, and screening questions.
- Work collaboratively with other staff, managers, and resources.
- Schedule surgical procedures and explain patient financial responsibilities.
- Answer and redirect phone calls, and take down messages.
- Manage and coordinate provider schedules, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
- Obtain prior authorizations for medications, durable medical equipment, and diagnostic tests for workers' compensation and commercial payers.
- Verify financial records and insurance, collect patient charges, and confirm patient identification.
- Pre-authorize patient services and procedures via insurance.
- Notify providers and support staff of patient arrivals.
- Facilitate the referral process for additional specialty procedures and/or tests.
- Create, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments.
- Understand and apply workflows and job aids.
- Apply knowledge of HIPAA and security laws.
- Perform additional duties and assignments as required.
Requirements
- High School Required
- AS Preferred
- 1-3 years 1-5 (Tier Dependent) Required
- Annual Assessment - OHS Required
- EPIC, HIPAA, OSHA, Additional as Required by Position Required
