About the Role

The Medical Assistant performs a variety of clinical and clerical services for the practices at the Taxter Road location, including monitoring vital signs, patient intake, and recording patient history. They will enter the patient room with the physician during visits to document medical records using electronic applications.

Responsibilities

• Take and record patients' height, weight, health history, and vital signs, including blood pressure and blood drawing (venipuncture) and EKGs.
• Assist the physician with physical exams and medical procedures by positioning the patient and checking vital signs during procedures.
• Perform all appropriate clerical work related to the preparation of billing source documents, insurance forms, and diagnostic testing order forms.
• Sterilize instruments and equipment using an autoclave.
• Prepare medical records and documentation/chart for physician(s).
• Enter the patient room with the physician during patient visits to capture and transcribe medical record documentation utilizing electronic medical record applications.
• Ensure medical record compliance through self-documentation attestation.
• Update patient history, physical exam, and other pertinent health information in the patient chart.
• Prepare and send all documentation for physician review and approval via authentication of detailed data entry and specialty-specific procedures.
• Comply with medical facility policies, including those related to HIPAA.
• Order and maintain supplies and prepare examination rooms.
• Maintain logbooks, abnormal results laboratory, and pathology specimens.
• Assist in clerical procedures such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, recording messages, and completing forms, medical records, and requests for lab tests and x-rays.
• Perform routine tests such as urinalysis, blood sugar, and hematocrit.
• Provide patient education for wellness.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1-3 years of experience preferred.
• Annual Assessment - OHS required.
• Fit Test - OHS required.
• Completion with certification of a Medical Assistant training program required.
• Experience in and completion of an externship during study for Medical Assistant certification required.
• Medical Scribe or Specialty certification required.
• EPIC, Infection Control, HIPAA, OSHA, and additional certifications as required by position.
