About the Role
As a Staff Product Designer at BuildOps, you will be a senior individual contributor and design lead for complex domains including financial workflows, AI, and mobile. You will own design quality, perform hands-on work on challenging problems, and set the standard for other designers. This role is ideal for someone energized by ambiguity and high-complexity problems who seeks significant impact at a fast-moving company.
Responsibilities
- Own design quality across financial workflows, AI, and mobile domains, taking ownership of the hardest problems from ambiguity to engineering-ready solutions.
- Ensure the quality of other design work within your domains meets a high standard.
- Provide direction and mentorship to designers in your domains, enhancing both their work and professional growth without formal management.
- Design intuitive and trustworthy user experiences for AI and agentic capabilities.
- Simplify complex enterprise workflows, including ERP integrations and financial operations, into clear user-facing solutions.
- Collaborate to enhance the mobile app experience for field users.
- Set the standard for design craft and AI-native work methodologies.
- Participate in design reviews, providing sharp and constructive feedback.
- Partner with product managers, engineers, and QA to understand constraints, test ideas, and ensure rapid shipping.
- Travel up to six times per year for team meetings and customer visits.
Requirements
- 8+ years of product design experience with a proven track record of shipping complex products.
- Demonstrated ability to elevate the work and people around you through mentoring and leadership without formal management.
- Deep experience designing complex, data-rich enterprise or vertical SaaS workflows.
- Experience designing AI-powered or agentic experiences is preferred.
- Genuinely AI-native in work approach: fluent with AI for synthesis, ideation, prototyping (e.g., Figma Make, Claude Design), and frontend code (e.g., Claude Code).
- Expert proficiency in Figma.
- Strong command of UX/UI principles, user research, usability testing, and data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating design rationale to diverse audiences, including senior stakeholders.
- Interpersonal skills to lead through influence and raise the bar for teammates.
- Familiarity with commercial trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) and/or construction is preferred but not required.

Salary/Compensations
- $170,000.00 to $210,000.00 base salary + annual bonus opportunity (SF hub)
- 185,000.00 to 195,000.00 CAD base salary + annual bonus opportunity (Toronto hub)
