About the Role

As an integral member of the Clinical Genetics laboratory team, the Technician V (Advanced Laboratory Technician) performs a variety of support functions under a medical directive. Responsibilities

  • Performing limited testing/reporting and pre-analytic tasks in assigned areas using accepted safety practices
  • Following established procedures and guidelines; preparing, handling and dispensing tubes/reagents
  • Performing report handling, statistics collection, and selected quality responsibilities
  • Provide support for inventory, supply control and receiving
  • Performing other duties related to a clinical genetics laboratory
  • Observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Performing cross-functional duties as assigned or requested
  • Performing other duties related to and consistent with the job classification, as required

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months of practical and related experience in a Clinical Genetics laboratory
  • Computer literate in Windows based applications
  • Experience working in a health care environment
  • Experience with the Epic HIS/Beaker Application
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under stress situations
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and operation
  • Knowledge and experience using sterile and aseptic conditions in a clinical laboratory setting as required by assigned area

Experience Level

  • Minimum 6 months of practical and related experience

Education Level

  • Completion of high school + additional program 1 year and over in Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Assistant Diploma (or higher MLP) from an accredited institution or completion of the discipline specific degree, or micro credential or recognized equivalent
  • Certification from CSMLS, MLPAO, or agency recognized by the Laboratory Licensing Branch of the Ministry of Health of the Province of Ontario
  • Completion of 30 hours of professional continuing education per year

Salary/Compensations

  • CAD 35.93 - CAD 41.37 - hourly
