About the Role

Systemiq is seeking a talented Data Scientist to join their ANALYTIQ team, focusing on energy system modelling. This role involves building analytical models to inform the energy transition, collaborating with leading institutions, and delivering substantial, system-level impact. The ideal candidate will possess advanced problem-solving, analytical, and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead modelling workstreams within complex projects relating to industrial decarbonisation.
  • Liaise with Systemiq’s platforms on energy (and secondarily on materials, finance, and nature) to design and build new tools.
  • Work with Systemiq’s partners and wider sustainability analytics community to stay up to date with the latest methods to bring to projects.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical track record, proven achievements, and impactful problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated abilities in various contexts.
  • Interest in contributing to an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Passion for system change.

Skills

  • Master’s degree or higher in mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science or equivalent area.
  • Programming experience in Python.
  • Experience with testing, version control, and continuous integration.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with energy systems modelling.
  • Experience with existing energy systems modelling frameworks such as PyPSA.
  • Experience with linear optimization.
  • Experience working with solvers such as Gurobi, CPLEX, or HiGHS.
  • Experience with GIS modeling and visualizations.
  • Experience with front-end development to share and communicate findings.
  • Experience in delivering web applications (HTML/CCS, Django/JS/HTMX).
  • Experience with cloud providers (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch etc).
