About the Role
The General Sales Manager is responsible for ensuring the dealership meets its new and used car and truck sales quotas and gross objectives. This role achieves these goals through strategic planning, organization, coordination, and measurement of various dealership departments, including New and Used Vehicle Sales, Finance, and Commercial Sales.
Responsibilities
- Make a monthly projection of vehicle requirements by department for the immediate 90-day sales period.
- Determine monthly and yearly forecasts for unit sales, gross profit objectives, and departmental profits.
- Forecast monthly with each salesperson to establish objectives for customer traffic, closing percentages, time utilization, prospecting efforts, unit sales, and projected income.
- Recommend procedures for advertising, sales promotions, staffing, lease promotions, compensation plans, customer complaint handling, salesperson evaluations, and car rentals to the Dealer/General Manager.
- Prepare a weekly plan for submission to the Dealer/General Manager.
- Meet daily with each salesperson to review past results and plan daily actions.
- Conduct sales meetings.
- Facilitate new vehicle pre-delivery with the Service Manager.
- Provide on-the-job training for salespeople.
- Ensure salespeople adhere to the established prospecting program for optimal results.
- Review monthly commission sheets, productivity reports, salesperson forecasts, and profit performance with the Dealer/General Manager.
- Maintain a balanced vehicle inventory and implement a program for moving new cars in inventory over 120 days.
- Maintain a balanced used car inventory and implement a program for moving used cars in inventory over 60 days.
- Ensure standards are maintained for displaying, merchandising, and maintaining new and used vehicles.
- Ensure new and used vehicle salespeople achieve 100% turnover for the Financial Manager.
- Check the condition and mileage of all demonstrators monthly.
- Maintain responsibility and authority over the Used Car Manager, Financial Manager, Commercial Sales Manager, and their functions.
- Maintain CSI in the top 10% of the group.
- Support and endorse dealership policies and procedures as set forth by Dealership Management and Manufacturers’ standards.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED) required.
- One year’s dealership experience required.
- Valid New York State Driver License.
