About the Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing and executing Fiera Real Estate’s Sustainable Investing (ESG) strategy across Canada. They will be responsible for integrating ESG considerations throughout the investment and real estate asset management lifecycle, while supporting the achievement of the organization’s long-term sustainability objectives.
Responsibilities
- Drive the Sustainable Investing (“SI”) strategy for Fiera Real Estate in Canada; independently identify and ensure execution of priority areas and program implementation at the portfolio and platform level
- Lead ESG data management including the collection, processing, analysis and monitoring of fund and property-level data; improve quality, accuracy and completeness of data over time
- Establish and support the strategic and tactical delivery of our ESG ambition, including accelerating our Funds’ decarbonization pathways, improving climate resilience, First Nation interactions and working with Indigenous Communities
- Imbed ESG considerations into investment decision-making, underwriting, portfolio management, development, financing, asset management, and all investor relations processes
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels; work collaboratively with the Sustainable Investment team within Fiera Capital’s Global Investment Office, Fund Managers, investors, consultants, industry peers, and vendors
- Be the central point of communications with investors as it relates to SI – developing and delivering key narratives that support capital raise efforts – including, but not limited to, new capital prospect pitches, client updates, advisory committee, and AGM meetings
- Responsible for regulatory compliance as it relates to federal, provincial, and municipal legislation and with other Fiera Capital-driven SI initiatives
- Lead participation in benchmarking and alignment with reporting frameworks including GRESB, PRI, CSDS and other net zero disclosure requirements
- Prepare quarterly investor report updates on ESG matters and the firm’s annual Sustainable Investing Report
- Coordinate the ESG Committee in Canada; prepare and administer annual ESG training for the Investment and Asset Management teams
- Provide subject matter expertise and recommendations for the Funds’ portfolio with respect to emerging trends and industry standards for benchmarking and building certifications (e.g. GRESB, BOMA, CRREM, etc.)
- Develop and oversee the organization’s governance practices as it relates to SI initiatives
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor or Masters degree in a relevant field
- Strong understanding of sustainability in the Real Estate landscape and asset management
- An established track record of forward-looking modeling and quantitative analysis to ensure the ESG program established has set measurable targets and is monitored accordingly
- 5 - 10+ years of relevant experience
- Strong analytical, technical, organizational and problem- solving skills
- A passion for sustainability and creating innovative solutions
- Strong influential skills, even in situations without direct authority
- Excellent communication and presentational skills with the ability to manage investor communication
- Demonstrated leadership skills in a similar environment
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, act as a change agent and collaborator.
