About the Role
We are seeking a mid-level Database Administrator to join our team. This position requires experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and a foundational understanding of on-prem Microsoft SQL Server. This role offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth within an experienced team, contributing to the support and evolution of critical database systems that underpin both our provider and payer side operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and performance tuning, including monitoring, capacity planning, and optimizing queries.
- Install, configure, and patch database systems.
- Maintain backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Monitor and maintain existing High Availability & Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions and assist with their implementation.
- Manage logins, users, roles, permissions, and ensure compliance with security policies.
- Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, providing support to application teams, vendors, and participating in incident resolution.
- Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for database systems and processes.
- Create, develop, and review the physical model created from the logical model, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Provide support for application staff and business areas regarding database implementations.
- Establish automated monitor mechanisms for space and database availability conditions.
- Establish best practices for database and application high availability.
- Provide applications support for staff and outside divisions.
- Conduct root cause analysis to identify and resolve problems impacting application and/or database availability and service levels.
- Contact vendor support when necessary.
- Provide after hours and weekend support as required for on call responsibilities, database refreshes, testing, technology upgrades, and other off hour assignments.
- Participate in establishing and maintaining technical standards, departmental procedures, and other technical documentation.
- Assure compliance to required Corporate standards, procedures, guidelines and processes, including audits.
- Assist in identifying, developing, and providing technology training to application developers.
- Participate in staff training opportunities relative to rules, procedures, and standards for the access and maintenance of shared data resources.
- Participate as assigned to intra and inter-departmental project initiatives.
- Participate as assigned in the testing and recommendation of tools and utilities to improve database environment management.
- Maintain contacts with other DBA professionals externally to maintain a perspective of current trends and best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
- CANDIDATE MUST BE US Citizen (due to contractual/access requirements)
- Minimum high school diploma or GED
- 1-3 years of experience in Information Technology
- 3 to 5+ years of experience
- Solid understanding and practical experience with GCP database services, including Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL), Cloud Spanner, and AlloyDB
- Experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with an understanding of its services and best practices.
- Proficiency in Terraform, including experience with custom Terraform providers, modules, and state management.
- Previous experience using Git for source code management, branching strategies, and collaborative development.
- Hands-on experience with the Google Cloud CLI and SDK for automation, scripting, and resource interaction.
- Experience in Python programming, with a focus on cloud-native application development and automation.
- Experience in developing and deploying applications on Cloud Run
- Familiarity with prompt engineering and fine-tuning models like Claude for specific data-related tasks.
- Experience in automating routine database administration tasks using scripting and AI tools.
- Experience with Sql Server databases is a plus
- SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is a plus.
- Scripting proficiency in PowerShell a plus
- Knowledge of SolarWinds DPA for performance tuning, monitoring, and SQL a plus
- On-prem mySql on Linux a plus
- Compliance with ethical and legal standards and behavioral expectations.
- Compliance with HIPAA and data security guidelines.
