About the Role

Anthony Nolan unites people and science to match stem cell donors with patients needing transplants. We are seeking a Research Assistant to join our Immunogenetics team to assist with the daily management and coordination of our Patient/Donor Programme.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily management and coordination of the Patient/Donor Programme.
  • Collect samples daily.
  • Perform sterile separation of lymphocytes.
  • Store patient and donor material.
  • Enter and maintain relevant clinical data on in-house databases.
  • Ensure ethical and laboratory guidelines are followed.
  • Design, build, and implement solutions within the Patient/Donor Programme.
  • Innovate processes and streamline project operations.
  • Develop molecular assays.
  • Utilize molecular biology techniques, including Single Molecule Real-Time (SMRT) sequencing.
  • Characterize Haematopoietic Cell Transplant (HCT) study cohorts.

Requirements

  • First class or 2:1 degree in a Biological Science (BSc) or equivalent.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Ability to take the initiative to work independently when necessary.
  • Previous experience in a molecular biology laboratory.
  • Experience with techniques such as DNA extraction.
  • Knowledge of HLA or other immunogenetic gene systems.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the right to work in the UK.
