About the Role

In Flight, Inc. is seeking a Life Skills DSP to support young men and women with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities at the ISAIL program, located at The Lonely Worm Farm in Hyde Park. This role focuses on building independent living, community integration, and social skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individuals to achieve valued outcomes in their individualized service plans.
  • Assist and supervise individuals to promote independence.
  • Facilitate community integration to help individuals reach their potential.
  • Assist with program planning and training focused on independence and choice.
  • Enthusiastically participate in, support, and encourage all activities on the farm and in the community.
  • Support individuals with developmental disabilities in participating and completing activities independently, both indoors and outdoors on a farm.
  • Assist individuals in becoming self-sufficient, self-advocating, self-driven, and self-actualized.
  • Provide overall protective oversight based on individual needs.
  • Teach Personal Hygiene and Self-Care.
  • Provide skill-building services for the development and teaching of daily living skills.
  • Facilitate community inclusion, including library use, recreation center visits, and shopping with basic money management.
  • Support self-advocacy and informed choice, empowering individuals to make decisions and advocate for themselves.
  • Provide travel training, including using public transportation and making transfers.
  • Foster appropriate social skills, behavior, and relationship building.
  • Educate on safety in the community and home, such as crossing streets and seeking help.
  • Cross-train and provide Community Based PreVocational services as needed.
  • Submit all required paperwork in a timely manner, documenting services provided.
  • Act as a professional role model, maintaining a professional manner and presentation at all times, representing the ISAIL program positively in the community.
  • Meet monthly with a supervisor for supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; an associate degree is preferred.
  • One year of related experience is preferred but not required, particularly working with adults with developmental disabilities in employment training or vocational settings.
  • Must be empathetic and have a team approach to care.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be energetic, creative, and have a positive attitude and a sense of humor.
  • Must attend all mandatory trainings as needed.
  • Must possess a valid NYS driver license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to stand and walk regularly.
  • Ability to occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
