About the Role
The Maintenance Technician supports Goodwill Central Texas's mission by performing essential maintenance tasks across various facilities, ensuring a safe and operational environment for employees and customers.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance across all Goodwill Central Texas facilities, retail stores, and program sites.
- Troubleshoot and repair building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, carpentry, and general facility components.
- Complete work orders within established priority timelines and document all repairs accurately in the CMMS/work order system.
- Assist with quarterly and annual preventive maintenance schedules on HVAC units, equipment, and safety systems.
- Conduct facility inspections to identify safety hazards, building/equipment issues, and maintenance needs.
- Respond to emergency calls, after-hours situations, and weather-related building issues as needed.
- Support vendor access, escorting, and coordination during scheduled repairs and service calls.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and Goodwill operational standards.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean, safe, and functional condition.
- Assist with minor construction, painting, carpentry, and installation projects.
- Communicate effectively with the Facilities Manager and store leadership on repair status and operational impacts.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal stakeholders, maintaining a helpful and professional demeanor.
Requirements
- One to three months previous related experience. Approved training programs may substitute for experience.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check (subject to requirements of assigned site client).
- Demonstrated skill in repair and maintenance of household appliances, plumbing, and lighting fixtures.
- Demonstrated skill in heating and air conditioning unit repair and maintenance.
- Ability to operate a variety of maintenance tools and equipment.
- Ability to multitask.
- Valid driver’s license, personal auto and liability insurance, and good driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying warehouse conditions (heat, cold, dust, noise).
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles.
